Can YOU Help Provide Smiles this Summer?

Written by OM Web Team. Posted in News

Can you imagine being eight years old and having to comprehend why you can’t go outside and play in your neighborhood because it’s not safe? Or why your friends are playing baseball and your mom says she’s sorry, but not this year.

Amaya is one of these children. At eight she understands far more than any of us can imagine. She remembers when she and her siblings were able to play baseball or go to dance class, but unfortunately money is tight now and they aren’t able to do these things anymore. You see, Amaya and her siblings were taken into the custody of the Department of Social Services when she was only a year old. Fortunately, they were able to stay together and live with wonderful foster parents today. But, things can still be tough at times. Money is tight now and they are not always able to participate in extracurricular activities.

However, because of friends like you, Amaya was able to have a fun, safe place to come and spend her holiday break. She was able to shoot hoops with her siblings and new friends, color, run around and most importantly—just be a kid for a few days!

“Thank you for letting me come to Proehlific Park. I had fun coloring and playing. I wish I could come there every week, but I live too far away. I want to come back this summer and play some more.” Amaya

With YOUR help, the P.O.W.E.R. of Play will be able to provide scholarships to Amaya and kids like her to participate in our summer care program, Summer Smiles, for children in foster care!

Our goal is to provide 10 to 15 children with the chance to attend Summer Smiles. The program will give them the opportunity to play and participate in programs that will enhance their skills and self-confidence. Just being able to simply be a kid is HUGE for some of these children who deal with very adult things on a daily basis. Children enrolled in Summer Smiles will be a part of organized daily activities at Proehlific Park for their age group. Each week they will also participate in “break out” work-shops that focus on topics such as nutrition, study habits and bullying with adult mentors.

Summer Smiles is a 9 week full scholarship program for children ages 5 to 13 to attend Proehlific Park over the summer break. The total cost for a scholarship is $990.00.

Can you help us this summer? Please consider making a gift and help us help local kids!

I can’t tell you how much your support means to Amaya and kids like her!

New Site Launched

Written by OM Web Team. Posted in News

The Ricky Proehl P.O.W.E.R. of Play Foundation is excited to announce the launch of their brand NEW website design. For the past year, the Foundation has been working to brand itself with the help from Official Marks, a local design firm based out of Summerfield, North Carolina. With their expertise and awesome ideas the Foundation is pleased to unveil our new “look.” The website clearly defines the mission of the Foundation to provide financial assistance and programming to at-risk youth in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina to participate in athletic, academic and spiritual programs. We also continue the mission of The Ricky Proehl Foundation by working with and supporting other North Carolina children’s charities!

The launch of the new website coincides with the launch of the P.O.W.E.R. of Play $5 Challenge. Our goal through the challenge is to raise $10,000.00 that will be used to provide new programming for at-risk youth and children currently in foster care.

Five dollars may not seem like a lot, but it adds up fast! Did you know that if everyone that came through Proehlific Park in one week made a $5 donation we could raise well over $10,000.00? Think about the difference that money could make to children in our community who so desperately need our help. To donate to the $5 campaign you can make a donation online or by visiting Proehlific Park! Thank you in advance for your support!
